Redwood Treewalk

My friend John and I rode up to Rotorua to walk the rather fine Redwood Treewalk (https://treewalk.co.nz/). The walkway is 700m long and sits high up in the tree tops and at night is lit by the most stunning light show. Unfortunately, the pictures don’t really do the lights justice.

We stayed the night at the Holden Bay Holiday Park. The next day we visited a classic car show before heading off to Napier via the Napier-Taupo Highway.

A quick coffee stop.

We stayed the night at the terrific Napier Beach Holiday Park in a cabin which was only about 20 metres from the sea.

The view from our cabin.

Night time in Napier

The following day after along soak in the parks hot pool, we we headed up and over the Kaweka Range on the little used and little known Gentle Annie road. The 122km road passes through some stunning scenery, and from a motorcycling point of view, is about as good as it gets. There was an almost complete absence of cars, which encouraged us to ride pretty hard at times. Funnily enough, when we did eventually meet another car it was swerving violently out of control and on wrong side of the road. The car somehow missed us, but it was a close run thing.

We arrived safely back in Wellington after a long days riding tired but exhilarated.
