With no family around Christmas is a quiet time of the year for us and a good excuse to hit the road and do some exploring.
We did do the sociable thing on Boxing Day and had a rather fine lunch with one of Neena’s friends only to find some fucktard had left a not so fine dent in our car. No note, so no surprises there then, although at least the car was drivable.
We drove up to Hamilton and spent four days there. The city doesn’t have the best of reputations over here with the town centre being particularly dire but it is also home to Hamilton Gardens NZ’s best botanical gardens and also the majestic Waikato River, so well and truly redeems itself.
After much botanicaling we headed up to Auckland to visit friends. Again, I am not not a big fan of the city (or cities in general) as it is way to busy for my liking but at this time year most of the population heads to the beaches and consequently Auckland is nice and quiet and a lovely place to spend a few days.
